OERC Conference: Connecting Research, Practice, and Policy
OERC invites you to its second annual conference designed to advance the use of education research in Ohio. This event, for researchers and practitioners who have a particular interest in education research, will include interactive sessions to share information about resources available through the OERC to support research, the research objectives for the future, and how research can be used to improve Ohio’s education system.
9-10:30 A.M.Data Workshop:Connecting Researchers to the Ohio Longitudinal Data Archive
In this workshop, representatives from the OERC will provide hands-on training to researchers on accessing the Ohio Longitudinal Data Archive (OLDA) to obtain specific data sets to be used in conducting education research. Presenters will introduce the data system that includes education and workforce data and provide a hands-on tutorial about how researchers can access the data to answer a wide range of questions, including program design and efficiency, cost and financial return, program outcomes, and the underlying economic changes that impact the education and workforce sectors. Researchers will also be engaged in a discussion on how the OERC can continue to expand its support of Ohio education research. Participants will need to bring a laptop to actively participate in this workshop.
10:30 A.M.-12 P.M.Panel Presentation:Connecting Education Leaders with Researchers
School districts and other education leaders interested in learning how to access and use data to inform leadership decisions at their school should not miss this interactive session. Hear from a panel of educators who will share how they actively use research. Join in discussions with fellow educators about how to integrate research into your practice. Engage in conversation with OERC researchers about the kind of information that could make an impact in your school and the best ways to make research information accessible and digestible. After this session, you will be ready to effectively use research to bolster your school’s efforts.
12-2 P.M.Luncheon Keynote:Connecting Ohio Educators to OERC
All Ohio educators will benefit from this session on the mission and vision for OERC. Learn why the OERC was established, get an update on current research projects, and gain an understanding of how this work supports front-line educators. Most importantly, participants will understand how powerful research can be when used to inform and guide improvement efforts.
